The children have been working so hard on their quilts. They are so excited to take them home at the end of the year.

The preschoolers have been working on math concepts using manipulatives. Patterning blocks and other math manipulatives are excellent for exploring the concepts of sorting, matching, and symmetry. Thay can also promote hands-on discoveries in measurement, set theory, and number concepts. The kids love working with them too!

Level I has been exploring colors this month. Miss Megan, a level I teacher said, “We started with the primary colors, and now we are working on the secondary colors and the tints and hues. We made green water with yellow and blue food coloring and we had fun mixing ketchup and mustard to make orange. We also mixed shaving cream with red and blue and frosted pretend cakes.”

This month Level II is learning about community workers. We took a field trip to the Fire Station. There were so many things to learn about and see. The children enjoyed the Fire Safety demonstration, the CPR demonstration, viewing the helicopters, the K9 dogs, and walking through the ambulances and firetrucks.

Level II also had some special visitors in the classroom this month: A Highway Patrol Officer, Police Officer with his K9 dog, a x-ray technician, and a dentist. All of our visitors helped us learn about their jobs and responsibilities within the community.
In September our students learned about the artist Jonathan Eastman Johnson, and his famous realistic painting The Old Stagecoach. The students enjoyed the Western Days theme by exploring a cowboys life, singing songs around the campfire, and dressing up as fancy cowboys and cowgirls.
We finished the year with a fun and exciting Spring Program at Hatfieldelphia… A big thanks to them for sharing their adventurous park and playgrounds. The children loved singing in the big castle. The children at My Smart World sang their favorite songs and recited poems for their parents and grandparents. The quilts that the children had been working on all year were completed and given to the students after the program. It was so exciting to see the cute pictures and artwork that they created, and not to mention how they improved throughout the year. They will surely treasure their special quilts for years to come. Have a fun summer kids, see you in the fall
We love Dr. Seuss and the books that he wrote,
We would read them with green eggs and ham in a boat.
We used red and white to make funny striped hats,
So we could look just like his infamous cat.
We read Hop on Pop and of red and blue fishes
And sent Dr. Seuss our best birthday wishes!

We had a great time seeing how a grocery store works! We watched the Deli slice cheese, saw how Bakery decorated cakes, and named lots of fruits and veggies in the Produce section. We also went behind the “Employees Only” door and saw all the stock rooms. Back at school, we set up our own store with cashiers and shoppers. What a fun field trip!

Our teddy bear picnic in January was a big success! We invited our favorite teddy bears to join in the festivities. We put blankets on the floor, ate peanut butter and honey sandwiches, tasted berries, and read stories about bears.
The picnic inside with all our friends was “beary” fun!

Today was a Hat Day at My Smart World preschool. Children and teachers wore their special hats to school. Students learned about various jobs that use hats, looked at images of different styles of hats through the history, and even made their very own hats to take home!
